Does High Pressure Drop Mean Filter Bags Need Replacing?

Not necessarily. A high differential pressure reading is a reason to investigate, but it is not enough on its own to decide that the bags need replacing.

Dust collecting on the filter surface increases resistance to airflow. Cleaning removes some of that dust and helps control pressure drop. If the reading stays high, check how the cleaning system is operating before ordering another set of bags.

The pattern matters. Has pressure risen gradually, or did it change after a process adjustment? Does it fall after cleaning? Compare readings with the collector manufacturer’s operating range and note any changes in airflow or production conditions.

Moisture is another possible cause. Condensation can blind the filter bags, restricting airflow through the fabric. New bags may develop the same problem if the moisture source remains.

For a replacement enquiry, send the existing bag dimensions and material, together with the operating temperature, cleaning method and recent pressure readings. Mention any changes in the process. These details help a supplier review the requirement beyond simply matching the bag size.

Follow the equipment manufacturer’s inspection procedure. The useful question is not just “Is the pressure high?” but “Why is it staying high?”
