Choosing Dust Collector Filter Cartridges for Welding Fumes
A replacement cartridge for welding fumes needs to do more than fit the collector. The media, cleaning performance and application requirements all need checking before selection.
Start with the process. What metal is being welded? Which welding method is used? Does grinding or cutting share the extraction system? These details give the supplier a clearer basis for reviewing the filter requirement.
Look beyond the efficiency figure
Fine-fibre layers and membrane media are options used in fume collection, but an efficiency figure alone does not establish suitability.
Ask for the relevant test information and confirm that the proposed media is compatible with the collector’s airflow and pulse-cleaning arrangement. Include the existing cartridge specification if it is available.
If cartridges load quickly or clean poorly, have maintenance review the extraction and cleaning system too. A change of media may not resolve an underlying system problem.
Review sparks and fire protection separately
Flame-retardant media is not fireproof. It does not replace the equipment manufacturer’s requirements for spark control, fire protection or assessment of combustible material.
Where welding shares an extraction system with grinding or cutting, make that clear during the review. Protective measures need to suit the actual process, rather than being assumed from the cartridge description.
For a replacement enquiry, send Verlofy the collector model, existing cartridge dimensions and media specification, together with the welding process and material being worked. Include any specified flame-retardant or conductive requirement so the proposed cartridge can be reviewed against the equipment and application.
